Christmas Gift Idea - Knitting - Knitted Set With Beanie and Snood/ Cowl

Not only is this gift idea quick and fun to knit, but is a guarantee that the recipient will be warm throughout the whole winter. The yarn used for this project is thick and soft to the touch and knits really well. Because the yarn is so thick, the snood is made long enough so that you just slip it over your head but you do not need to wrap it around twice.

Knitting - Red Knitted Set With Beanie and Snood 1

Time required: Depending how fast you knit, you will need about 1-2 hours for the hat and 3-4 hours for the snood.

Difficulty Level: Easy for experienced knitters

Material List:

- About 80-90 g (+,-) Red Heart yarn “Lisa Big” for the beanie
- About 200 g (+,-) Red Heart yarn “Lisa Big” for the snood/ cowl
- Circular knitting needles, size 15 mm for the snood
- One set of 5 sock knitting needles size 10 mm for the hat
- measuring tape
- scissors

Information About the Yarn:

200 grams = 120 meters
100% Acrylic

Knitting gauge when knitting the “Seed Stitch” or “Moss Stitch” pattern (depending on which country you live in) with size 15 mm needles - 8 stitches und 10 rows = 10 x 10

Patterns used for these projects:

The Snood/ Cowl:

Red Yarn

Seed Stitch or Moss Stitch Pattern for the snood:

Row 1: Knit 1, *Knit 1, Purl 1, repeat after * until the last stitch, then slip the last stitch over to your needle without knitting or purling it.
Row 2: Knit the first stitch (you are knitting the slipped stitch), then knit or purl the stitches how you see them facing you (meaning knit a knitted stitch and purl a purl stitch) until the last stitch, then slip the last stitch over to your needle without knitting or purling it
Row 3: Knit 1 (you are knitting the slipped stitch), *Purl 1, Knit 1, repeat after * until the last stitch, then slip the last stitch over to your needle without knitting or purling it
Row 4: Knit the first stitch, then knit or purl the stitches how you see them facing you until the last stitch, then slip the last stitch over to your needle.

Instructions for the snood:

Cast on 24 stitches with the size 15 mm circular needles. Knit using the “Seed Stitch Pattern” or “Moss Stitch Pattern” (see above) until the you have reached a length of 72 cm. Finish off the edge and then cut the yarn at a longer length to use for sewing the snood together. Place both short ends together and sew the edge closed so that you have a tube. Secure then any yarn ends on the wrong side of the snood.

The Beanie:

Knitting - Red Knitted Beanie

Ribbing pattern for the beanie:

*Knit 2, Purl 2, repeat after *

Seed Stitch or Moss Stitch Pattern for the beanie: (the pattern is slightly different than for the snood because the beanie needs no chain edge and also because you are not turning your work)

Row 1: *Knit 1, Purl 1, repeat after *
Row 2: *Knit 1, Purl 1, repeat after *
Row 3: *Purl 1, Knit 1, repeat after *
Row 4: *Purl 1, Knit 1, repeat after *

Instructions for the beanie:

Cast on 40 stitches with the size 10 sock knitting needles (10 stitches on each of the 4 needles plus a 5th needle to work with). Work the “Ribbing Pattern” for 8 cm. Then work the “Seed Stitch” pattern for another 10 cm.

Now it is time to decrease:

Row 1: *knit 2 stitches together, repeat after * (20 stitches remaining)
Row 2: Knit all stitches
Row 3: Knit all stitches
Row 4: *knit 2 stitches together, repeat after * (10 stitches remaining)
Row 5: Knit all stitches
Row 6: *knit 2 stitches together, repeat after * (5 stitches remaining)

Then cut your yarn and thread it through a large needle and go through all remaing stitches to close the hole. Sew your thread thoroughly on the wrong side of the beanie. Sew all remaining yarn ends on the wrong side of the beanie.
