Alpine regions of Germany covered with snow filled landscapes were inspirations for this card. Sequins and beads are sewn onto the card to give it some texture and to look like small snowflakes. The greeting “Frohe Weihnachten und ein gutes neues Jahr” means “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year”.

Traditional Christmas characters such as those found in the card below are typical for designs used for cards. German crafters enjoy the paper napkin applique technique for cards and crafts. The selection of paper napkins available is unendless. This card is a perfect example just what one half of a paper napkin can create. It is created in a 3-D technique which is also popular in Germany. The initial paper napkin motifs are fused onto the card. Then certain motifs are adhered in what is called Aslan foil. That is a thick one-sided self sticking foil. Then these motifs are cut out and adhered onto the card, giving it a 3-D effect.

Another popular technique used on German Christmas cards is adhering peel-off stickers onto acetate and filling out the spaces with special gel/paint pens that can color on the foil to create transparent scenes. The example below and to the right show how this technique looks.

This is another example of a card made using the paper napkin applique technique. The technique is so popular due to the vast amount of decorative paper napkins found in the stores. Craft stores also sell the napkins individually so one does not always need to purchase a full pack.
